Peace20: We Mourns Prince Dr. Damien Dematra

- The Peace20 peace initiative continues its global journey to South Africa. This international movement, first launched on November 1–2, 2022, in Bali bringing Indonesia’s message of peace to the world has once again inspired thousands of young people.

This year, through a series of peace events, thousands of young people voiced their vision for world peace. Princess Natasha Dematra, one of the founders of Peace20, shared that during an audience with South African Ambassador H.E. Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, world peace and ongoing global conflicts were key topics of discussion, along with how Peace20 can create meaningful impact.

Boiki Mutluung, Political Advisor at the South African Embassy, said, “The Peace20 Peace Initiative is organized based on foreign policy priorities in South Africa and abroad. We believe that Peace20 aligns with our policies and with what we want to see happen globally. We fully support this initiative, the G20, and Peace20.”

The mission of Peace20 is to serve as a platform for young people to experience and share peace, to celebrate life in all its diversity, and to create opportunities that sustain life and well-being for people and the planet.

Princess Natasha Dematra remarked, “I hope that as Peace20 continues in South Africa, the global peace mission can move forward. We need to celebrate peace because it is the key to living together in harmony in this world.”

Peace20 events include the Peace Pledge, undertaken by Global Youth, conveying a message to world leaders that they do not want war, conflict, intolerance, or tension. They want Peace in Action, justice, and sustainable development—believing that peace and harmony are essential for humanity and the world to survive and coexist.

Peace20’s vision is to advocate for peace within G20 member countries and across the international community, especially among youth. Peace20 was first launched by the “Prince of Peace,” Prince KPAA Dr. Damien Dematra, together with Princess Cheryl Halpern. When Peace20 was first held in Indonesia in 2022, in support of the G20 Indonesian Presidency, 25,555 participants from 53 countries joined in person and online. Activities included discussion forums, peace-themed art competitions, and signature collections for the world record “World’s Thickest Book with a Message of Peace.”

“This year, although Peace20 mourns the passing of my father, the Prince of Peace, his spirit of peace remains and will continue to shine in the hearts of the younger generation who remember him and his mission. I hope Peace20 can continue and make significant changes toward a more peaceful world,” Princess Natasha Dematra said.

In 2023, Peace20 traveled to India for the International Peace20 Youth Summit, regarded as the Global Youth Movement for World Peace and Sustainable Development. As part of their commitment, participants signed the Peace Pledge through Peacegate on August 11–12, 2023, with full support from the UN. In 2024, Peace20 returned to Brazil, where thousands of children advocated for peace in Indonesia and Brazil.

This year, Peace20 is supported by the South African Embassy as it carries out its peace mission in conjunction with the G20 Summit in South Africa, held on November 22–23, 2025.
